Casey leads the overall direction of Canoe Kayak Canada. His role includes strategic planning, managing staff, reporting to the board and overseeing general operations of the organization. Casey has spent over 25 years working in executive positions in sport and is regarded internationally as a leading expert in anti-doping. He has held leadership positions at WADA, CCES and ANADO and has also worked as a consultant and professor at Algonquin College. Casey is a former National Team sprinter who competed at the 1979 Pan American Games Team and ran for the University of Wisconsin.

Graham Barton leads the High Performance strategy and National Team Programs in collaboration with coaches, athletes, officials, clubs and funding partners. He heads the development and implementation of strategic long-term technical plans to ensure sustainable success across the system and alignment with the Long Term Athlete Development model. His focus is with the sprint program but he also works to adapt best practices and common services across disciplines. Graham was Canoe Kayak Canada’s High Performance Director for eleven years from 1999 to 2010. He then spent six years working at Own the Podium as a High Performance Advisor before returning to CKC. He was also a high performance coach and athlete in the sport.

Ian leads Canoe Kayak Canada’s development programing in full partnership with Provincial and Territorial Sport Organizations, Club and other key partners. He works closely with clubs, coaches and partner adminsitrators to develop the sport from the grassroots level and allow athletes and communities to get the most out of the sport. Ian holds a Master’s degree in Canadian Studies from Carleton University and was a board member for the Coaching Association of Canada for 6 years. Ian grew up paddling at the Rideau Canoe Club with his family. He was a National Team canoe athlete for seven years then went into coaching. His international career highlights include a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, two silver medals at the World University Championships and placing fourth in C4 at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. He is most proud of his accomplishments at National Championships which include winning 17 medals and capturing the Black trophy twice in Junior Men’s C4.

James leads the administrative side of Canoe Kayak Canada’s whitewater programs with a primary focus on the slalom high performance program. His objective is to develop the sport and improve international performances. James supports the slalom team by managing team support services, international travel and team selection. He works closely with the Whitewater Council and Slalom High Performance Committee while also liaising with freestyle, wildwater and polo committees. James competed in slalom C1 at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games and was a member of the Canadian National Team from 1995 to 2009.

Natalie works with National Team athletes, coaches and the Integrated Support Team to manage logistics for training camps and competitions. She plays a key role in high performance planning and budget management. Natalie formerly worked for the host committee of the Glagow 2014 Commonwealth Games where she was the Sport Entries Coordinator. She’s also worked as a Capacity Support Officer for the Botswana National Olympic Committee and the Falkland Islands Commonwealth Games Association through Commonwealth Games Canada’s SportsWORKS program. Natalie has worked as a program coordinator for CAAWS, KidSport Ottawa, and for the City of Ottawa’s Girls n’ Women and Sport program. She holds a Masters in Sports Management from Bournemouth University and a B.Sc. in Exercise Science from Concordia.

Ian works to grow the presence and profile of CanoeKayak’s brand. He manages media relations on behalf of the organization to ensure athletes and key stories are in the news. He coordinates with sponsors and plays a role in event management. Ian communicates regularly with the paddling community and key stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged. He manages Canoe Kayak Canada’s website and social media platforms in addition to writing and producing multi-media content. Ian holds a degree in public relations. As a sprint kayaker, he competed at the Junior World Championships and Pan American Championships.

Jessica is involved with much of the administrative work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure Canoe Kayak Canada’s programs run smoothly. She plays an active role in the management of CanoeKids, and CAC’s The Locker. Jessica holds an Honours Bachelor in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa and a Graduate Certificate in Sport Business Management from Algonquin College. She enjoys playing soccer, baking and is always up for a good yoga class.

Claire manages the National office in Ottawa including shared reception for Canoe Kayak Canada and the Canada Games Council. She coordinates hotel bookings and travel arrangements for the many events and committee meetings that take place throughout the year. Claire is fully bilingual and has worked in Administration for the Coaching Association of Canada for twelve years.

John is part of Canoe Kayak Canada’s commitment to the international Paracanoe programme and is a special advisor to the CEO. He acts as a consultant to coordinate strategic initiatives for the betterment of CKC. He initiated the Aboriginal Paddling Initiative and the PaddleALL program for paddlers with disabilities as a means to expand the reach of the sport. He is one of the founders and is currently the chair of the Club Excellence programme which is a multi-sport initiative to improve club programming in the country. He is a Board member of the International Canoe Federation and is the Chair of the ICF’s Canoeing for All Committee which seeks to expand the sport on a world-wide basis. He was instrumental in putting Paracanoe on the Paralympic program for 2016 and 2020. John competed at the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games in canoe.

Sally manages Canoe Kayak Canada’s accounting and budgeting. She and her staff handle all things financial on behalf of the organization including invoicing, processing payments and financial forecasting. Sally is owner of Clare Business Services and provides support to several other National Sport Organizations.
