Job Opportunity: Head Coach – Sprint Division


FCKC is seeking an exceptional individual to fill the position of Head Coach based in Fort Langley, in the beautiful Fraser Valley of BC. For the right person, this position could be part time or full time.

The FCKC sprint canoe/kayak club has had up to 50 active members.

The Head Coach is responsible for the growth and development of sprint canoe and kayak paddling in the club. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of all Sprint division operations including planning, developing and implementing training and year-round practice sessions for development and performance athletes; specialized training camps; regatta attendance; summer and day camps; equipment management; event hosting; and some administration.

The Coach will directly supervise 2-4 staff members, who will function as summer camp instructors and assistant coaches. FCKC is seeking an individual who has the ability to nurture the potential skills and abilities of athletes of all ages, and to develop successful, long-term growth plans for the club. FCKC takes pride in its well-rounded community program that embraces all levels of participation and also aims to place athletes on the national podium. The successful candidate will be committed to remaining in Fort Langley for the long-term. Our small club has tremendous growth potential for the right Coach.

General Requirements:
• Minimum 5 seasons canoe/kayak coaching experience
• Certified (or working on) an NCCP ‘Competition Development’ coach, and a member in good standing
• Successful Criminal Record check
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card
• Current First Aid certification including CPR-C
• Demonstrated ability to competently supervise a staff of at least 2 assistant coaches and/or camp instructors
• Proven ability to manage Summer Camps, Development Athlete Training Programs, High Performance Training Camps, High Performance Athlete Training Programs, and team attendance at regattas
• Proven track record of preparing individualized training plans for athletes, including demonstrated ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of athletes and crews in order to meet short-term and long-term goals
• Ability to use video and current technology to analyze and evaluate athletes’ performances and effectively modify performances
• Proven track record of entrepreneurial skills, promotions and realizing club growth
• Proven track record of facilitating athlete progression and creating a positive training and competition environment
• Knowledge of sprint canoe equipment, management and repairs
• Personal sprint kayak or canoe racing experience at the national level is an asset.
• Personal Dragon Boat, OC or War Canoe experience is an asset.

General Expectations:
• Plan, develop and implement training schedules at FCKC.
• Deliver positive and safe training sessions, programs and camps for athletes at FCKC and collaborate with the Provincial Coach.
• Participate in provincial training camps, competitions and projects.
• Collaborate with the FCKC Board, CKBC, Canoe Kayak Canada and club coaches to foster membership growth, to motivate and prepare individual athletes and teams, and to increase the number of British Columbians attaining podium performances at the national and international level.
• Display professionalism, commit to fair play, and adhere to all FLCC, FCKC and CKBC policies.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and organizational abilities.
• Complete duties and meet performance indicators as outlined in the employment agreement.

Compensation: Pay will be commensurate with experience.
