Canoe Kayak Canada announces the selection of National Teams for the 2018 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA (March 8, 2018) – Canoe Kayak Canada is proud to  nominate a team to represent Canada at the 2018 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat (DB) World Championships taking place in Gainesville, Georgia (USA), scheduled September 13th to 16th.

Canoe Kayak Canada has named Jerome Seremak as Head Coach of the DB National Team and Gord Ramsey as National DB Team Manager for this event.

“We are very excited to lead the CKC team headed to the 2018 ICF DB World Championships,” said Jerome Seremak, “We are inviting all eligible paddlers to try out for these teams and look forward to seeing the world-class teams Canada will be able to send to Gainsville in September.”

The CKC Dragon Boat Selection Committee will organise spring training camps in March and April. Camps will be optional, but will provide the committee with important data like athlete physical, technique and team attributes.

With the oversight of Graham Barton, Chief Technical Officer at Canoe Kayak Canada, Seremak and DB coaching staff will lead the selection of crew for this championship based on the following criteria:

  • Physical Testing:

Pull Downs (50% of Body Weight, max. reps in 1 minute)

Sit Ups (Max. reps in 1 minute)

Rowing Erg (Timed distance at Level 5 on 1,000 m)

 

  • Video Testing:

Interested athletes are required to submit different video footage of at least 15 seconds of them paddling to demonstrate adaptability.

A total of four (4) video clips will be required (find all details in the CKC Dragon Boat Worlds Selection Process document linked below).

Physical testing and video testing MUST be submitted to the CKC Selection Committee at (dragonboat@canoekayak.ca) by June 15, 2018.
