I started paddling in 2008 because some family friends recommend the summer camp at Mic Mac to my parents. Ever since then I fell in love with the sport and soon began the all year round training.

My first nationals was in my home town in 2016 on lake Banook in Dartmouth where I got my first national k1 medal and made my first Olympic hopes team. I am so thankful for all of the traveling that I have been able to do thanks to paddling. My mother is from Spain so I have also been able to train there and I’ve made some lifelong friendships.

I am looking forward to the many years to come filled with racing for Team Canada and meeting new people.

What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of representing this country. I love where I live and the people I am surrounded by and
Objectives for the coming years?
To get faster with every opportunity I’m given. In the upcoming years I want to represent Canada internationally at Worlds and go to the Olympic Games.
Canoe or Kayak, why?
Kayak! Maybe because I do it everyday? But maybe I’m just biased 😉
When was your first race?
At the age of 6, I raced my first ever k1 race at the Atom Bomb regatta at Orenda Canoe Club
What is your best memory about the sport?
My best memory about the sport would be when I got to race in the final at last years trials. Leading up to the last set I was so confident in my abilities, but once I made that final and was finally on the line with the fastest girls in Canada I couldn’t have asked for much more. All that was left was a big head wind and a race plan to execute. That moment makes me smile.
What is the biggest challenge about your sport?
I think the biggest challenge about our sport is remembering the process it takes every year to get to racing season. In my opinion, racing is the fun stuff. The most challenging moments are the 10 other months of training leading up to those 2 months in the racing season, where everything needs to come together in under two minutes, or forty seconds. Getting through those 10 months of the year is hard and painful, but having those awesome moments in the season makes it all worth it.

Canoe Club: Rideau Canoe Club
Sport: Women’s kayak

Maddy started paddling when she was 8 years old. She did many other sports like swimming, cross country, and track, but fell the most in love with being outside and on the water. She started paddling at the Ottawa River Canoe Club where her main focus was having fun with all her friends. She developed an affinity for learning and challenging herself, so the natural next step was to move to the Rideau Canoe Club to train with more, older, and faster athletes when she was 13.

Maddy has been on the national team since 2011 where she raced at her first Junior World Championships. Maddy has races at two Junior World Championships, three U23 World Championships, one Senior World Championships, and she was on the brink of qualifying for Rio Olympics. Maddy loves riding her bike to practice, eating oatmeal for breakfast, drinking fancy lattes, and spending 95% of her day in fresh air.

Birthdate: May 27 1992
Hometown: Trois-Rivières
Canoe Club: Trois-Rivières Canoe-Kayak Club
Sport: Women’s canoe
Coach: Mathieu Pelletier

Laurence started paddling in 2005 at the Trois-Rivières Canoe Club, and she has established herself as arguably the best female canoer in the world.

She stepped onto the international scene in 2010 and won two gold medals at the World Championships. She repeated her results in 2011 and won another two gold medals in C1 200 and C2 500 with her partner Mallorie Nicholson and again in 2013 with partner Sara-Jane Caumartin. She also became the inaugural Under 23 World Champion in 2013. The streak continued, as Laurence won gold at Worlds in 2014, and again in 2017 in C2 500m and C1 200m.

Laurence currently holds the world record for C1 200m with a time of 44.502 seconds posted at World Cup #1 of 2018 in Szeged, Hungary. She also holds the world record with partner Katie Vincent in C2 500m, with a time of  1:51.428 seconds posted at that same event.

Laurence has been a big voice in advocating for the inclusion of women’s canoe on the Olympic programme and her efforts have paid off- C2 500m and C1 200m disciplines were added to the Olympic schedule for Tokyo 2020! Laurence is hungry for an Olympic medal.
