OTTAWA, ON (November 14, 2025) – CKC announces the departure of slalom coach Anthony Colin, who will be leaving at the end of this year after many years of dedicated service to our athletes and our sport of paddling.
Anthony first came to Canada in 2016 to coach with Whitewater Ontario, where his leadership and passion for athlete development made an immediate impact. In 2019, he joined CKC as a national slalom coach, later taking the helm of the Pau training hub from 2021 until present. His influence extended across all levels of the program, from supporting grassroots growth to guiding our high-performance athletes on the world stage.
“It has been a privilege working alongside Anthony since he arrived in Canada,” said James Cartwright, Senior High Performance Manager and Coach Development. “His unwavering commitment to our athletes and his drive to elevate our programs have been inspiring. I wish him every success as he takes on new challenges, wherever his journey leads.”
Anthony was part of the CKC coaching team for both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where his expertise, professionalism, and calmness under pressure were invaluable. Known for his strong management skills, holistic approach to athlete development, and commitment to fostering high-performance environments, Anthony helped shape a generation of Canadian slalom paddlers.
Beyond results, Anthony will be remembered for his generosity, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the potential of those he coached. His contributions have left a lasting mark on our community, both in Canada and abroad.
“We thank Anthony for his contributions to our sport and our community,” said Casey Wade, CEO, Canoe Kayak Canada. “We are committed to supporting our slalom national team, and we will review our next steps to ensure sustainability and growth. Our focus is on strengthening the program and building a pathway that positions Canadian athletes for success as we look toward the future.”
On behalf of everyone at Canoe Kayak Canada we extend our deepest gratitude to Anthony for his years of dedication and leadership. We wish him every success in his next chapter and are confident his impact on Canadian paddling will continue to be felt for years to come.
As with many sports navigating funding challenges within the Canadian sport system, CKC is currently reviewing its resources, capacity, and funding allocations to determine the most effective path forward for our national team programs. At this time, CKC will not be replacing the international coach position.
Looking forward, Michal Staniszewski will take a lead role within the high-performance program, working closely with James Cartwright as lead staff. CKC will continue to ensure additional coaching support is provided as needed for training camps and competitions.
