HALIFAX, N.S. (June 27, 2026) – Team Canada concluded an unforgettable three days of racing at the 2026 ICF Masters Canoe Sprint World Championships on Saturday, leading a record Canadian contingent at a historic event that marked several firsts for the sport.
Hosted in Halifax from June 25–27, the Championships welcomed approximately 200 athletes from 21 countries, including Mauritius, which made its Masters World Championships debut. Of those competitors, 120 proudly represented Team Canada, making it the largest national team at the event.
Athletes from seven provinces competed under the maple leaf, with Ontario and Nova Scotia fielding the largest provincial contingents. The oldest Canadian competitor in his 83rd year, Bob Kay, demonstrated the enduring spirit of Masters racing, proving that high-performance paddling has no age limit.
This year’s Championships also made history with the inclusion of Women’s Canoe events for the first time at the Masters World Championships, an important milestone in the continued growth and evolution of the sport.
Beyond the racing, the event celebrated the passion, dedication, and lifelong commitment of Masters athletes, who continue to inspire paddlers of all generations.
