OTTAWA, ON (February 4, 2025) – Canoe Kayak Canada respects the decision of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport to suspend recently retired national team athlete Madeline Schmidt for a 20-month period due to an anti-doping rule violation.

“We understand that Madeline did not keep her whereabouts information fully up-to-date and was therefore not available for required testing. Madeline has explained to us that it was inadvertent,” said CKC Chief Executive Officer, Casey Wade. “Anti-doping regulations are in place to ensure a level playing field for all athletes, and we are committed to the enforcement and support of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP).”

Once informed of the violation, Madeline was fully cooperative with all aspects of the process.

“Athletes are responsible for completing whereabouts and submitting filings on time to avoid a sanction such as this. We hope this incident will serve as a reminder for all athletes to follow the CADP and ensure they are compliant.”
