Maddy started paddling when she was 8 years old. She did many other sports like swimming, cross country, and track, but fell the most in love with being outside and on the water. She started paddling at the Ottawa River Canoe Club where her main focus was having fun with all her friends. She developed an affinity for learning and challenging herself, so the natural next step was to move to the Rideau Canoe Club to train with more, older, and faster athletes when she was 13.
Maddy has been on the national team since 2011 where she raced at her first Junior World Championships. Maddy has races at two Junior World Championships, three U23 World Championships, one Senior World Championships, and she was on the brink of qualifying for Rio Olympics. Maddy loves riding her bike to practice, eating oatmeal for breakfast, drinking fancy lattes, and spending 95% of her day in fresh air.
