Chief Executive Officer
Casey Wade

Casey leads the overall direction of Canoe Kayak Canada. His role includes strategic planning, managing staff, reporting to the board and overseeing general operations of the organization. Casey has spent over 25 years working in executive positions in sport and is regarded internationally as a leading expert in anti-doping. He has held leadership positions at WADA, CCES and ANADO and has also worked as a consultant and professor at Algonquin College. Casey is a former National Team sprinter who competed at the 1979 Pan American Games Team and ran for the University of Wisconsin.

Chief Technical Officer
Ian Mortimer

Ian leads the High Performance strategy and National Team Programs in collaboration with coaches, athletes, officials, clubs and funding partners. He heads the development and implementation of strategic long-term technical plans to ensure sustainable success across the system and alignment with the Long Term Athlete Development model. His focus is with the sprint program but he also works to adapt best practices and common services across disciplines. Ian grew up paddling at the Rideau Canoe Club with his family. He was a National Team canoe athlete for seven years then went into coaching. His international career highlights include a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, two silver medals at the World University Championships and placing fourth in C4 at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships. He is most proud of his accomplishments at National Championships which include winning 17 medals and capturing the Black trophy twice in Junior Men’s C4.

Senior Manager – High Performance and Coach Development 
James Cartwright

James leads the administrative side of Canoe Kayak Canada’s whitewater programs with a primary focus on the slalom high performance program. His objective is to develop the sport and improve international performances. James supports the slalom team by managing team support services, international travel and team selection. He works closely with the Whitewater Council and Slalom High Performance Committee while also liaising with freestyle, wildwater and polo committees. James competed in slalom C1 at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games and was a member of the Canadian National Team from 1995 to 2009.


Senior Manager – High Performance Operations
Emily MacKeigan

Emily manages the operations of the Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe high performance programs. She manages the operational requirements for the Canadian Sport Centres and Institutes, including the Sport Science and Sport Medicine support network for the Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe National Teams. Emily collaborates with COC and CPC to deliver the optimal Olympic and Paralympic preparation plan. Emily completed her studies at the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor in Human Kinetics and a Master’s degree with a concentration in Sport Management. The leadership she has developed over the past few years as an Event Coordinator at Gymnastics Canada and Team Services Coordinator at Equestrian Canada is a major asset for Canoe Kayak Canada.

Whitewater Programs and Special Projects Coordinator
Scott Best

Scott assists the whitewater high performance programs as well as the CKC coach education programs and providing administrative support to the senior manager of slalom and athlete development. Scott collaborates with host organizing committees to coordinate logistical support for whitewater national events, as well as administrative support for whitewater national team programs, coaches and athletes. Moreover, Scott also liaises with the CCES to coordinate event anti-doping requirements. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in Sport Business with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Bishop’s University and was a member of the men’s rugby team. He also holds a Graduate Certificate with Honours from Algonquin College’s Sport Business Management program.
