SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD, QUÉBEC (May 11, 2018) – Canoe Kayak Canada’s fastest Whitewater Canoe Slalom paddlers will be taking their first strokes into the National Team Selections this weekend in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Québec. This selection of the Canadian Canoe Slalom Team will take place on the Saint-Charles river course at Kayak Valleyfield.

“Our whitewater canoe slalom athletes trained all winter on different rivers around the globe in order to get ready for this national team selection,” said James Cartwright, Slalom High Performance Manager at Canoe Kayak Canada. “They spent the last week training here on the Valleyfield course, and now it is time to test that preparation and select the team that will be representing Canada at the 2018 international events.”

Canoe Kayak Canada will be selecting athletes to compete at the five different 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cups taking place in Europe over the summer. These National Slalom Team Trials will also be used as part of the selection process for the national teams that will be representing Canada at the Senior, U23 and Junior World Championships this year.
